What we do
Students learn music by making music
Everything we build starts from what young people already listen to, and gets them playing in the first lesson. The theory arrives once there is a reason to want it.
- Learn skills and knowledge through music they already know
- Make real choices about what and how they play
- Improvise, perform, listen and compose inside every activity
- Develop a musical identity of their own
- Take different roles in a large or small ensemble
Why we do it
Young people already love music. We build on that.
Wherever they live, children and young people love music, and that love brings a vast array of benefits with it. Through music we develop social and personal skills that transfer into every other part of life.
Musical Futures exists to support you as you work with the young people in your care. Every unit is written by teachers who are still in classrooms, and tested in them before it reaches you.

Our workshop days run inside real schools. These ones opened their music department to a room of visiting teachers, which is how a Musical Futures event ends up feeling like a music room rather than a conference centre.
