What equipment do you bring?
We bring a full kit of Roland AIRA Compact devices (enough for 30 students), headphones, headphone splitters, and patch cables. You don't need to supply any instruments or music technology — just a room, a projector, and a sound system.
What year groups is it suitable for?
The program is suitable for students from Year 4 to Year 12. It is especially impactful for elective music classes, but is equally engaging for upper primary students who love electronic music!
Do students need any prior music experience?
No — all sessions are customisable to suit any level of experience. For absolute beginners, we'll focus on making simple beats. For more advanced students, we'll deep dive into synthesis and higher-level musical concepts.
What does a typical full-day session look like?
There are two main formats for a full day:
- 1-hour sessions with multiple classes — gives a higher number of students exposure to the workshops. Perfect if you'd like students to get a taste of electronic music composition and performance across the school.
- Extended immersion with a single class — takes one group from zero to a full performance by the end of the day. This is a powerful experience for elective music classes in particular.
We'll work with you to design the right timetable for your school's context.
Can the workshops be linked to curriculum outcomes?
Yes — we can link directly to curriculum outcomes upon request. In NSW, the full-day workshop's composition component is a strong fit for the Stage 5 Depth Study and the compulsory composition unit in Stage 6 Music (starting 2027), since students sequence, layer, and perform an original track on professional hardware synced to their school's DAW. We also work with music teachers on site to explore and address other relevant curriculum outcomes as needed.
What is the teacher's role during the workshop?
Since all of our team are trained high school and primary school music teachers, we encourage on-site music teachers to simply join in and enjoy the experience alongside their students!
Teachers also help manage the beginning and end of sessions as per school expectations, and are involved in designing the timetable for the day to suit the needs of their school context.
Do you travel to regional or rural schools?
Yes, absolutely! Travel to regional or rural locations may incur an additional cost, but this will be discussed on a case-by-case basis once an application is submitted.
How far in advance do we need to book?
The program books up quickly each year. It is always worth applying for any date you have in mind, however a term in advance is typically necessary to guarantee a place.
Can we book for a single class or a whole year group?
Both options work well. Full-day immersions with a single class are particularly powerful — we can take an elective class from zero to a full performance by the end of the day.
We can also work with a whole year group, but only with 30 students at any one time, so we would spread the year group across multiple 1-hour sessions throughout the day.
