How do the Musical Futures International Certification Levels work?
The Musical Futures International Certification Levels are designed to help you track and celebrate your application of learner-centred approaches to music education.
Levels are completed at our professional learning events (online versions are coming). Due to the experiential and social nature of this pedagogical approach, it makes the most sense to complete your desired level at an in-person event.
Certification is included with your event registration — no extra fees. Recipients receive an official certificate for their CPL portfolio.
FAQs
Each of our professional learning events specify which levels are being offered. For example, if you see an event advertised as Level 1, you will attend that event, and upon completion you will receive your Level 1 certificate.
You are more than welcome to repeat your Level 1 training at any point. Often music teachers will come back for a ‘refresher’ every few years to reconnect with the community and apply new ideas!
Nope, it’s up to you. We have introduced the Levels as a way of helping teachers decide whether training is for them or not AND to better recognise your level of experience using the Musical Futures approach.
It’s a self-selecting approach — experienced teachers can choose the appropriate level at our Big Gig events.
Again, no way! If you have done lots of Musical Futures before, you can jump straight to your Level 3 certification and boom, done :)
For teachers newer to the approach, we recommend a paced progression through the levels.
No, currently we only offer the Certification Levels via our in-person events. We also feel that this is the most impactful way to learn.
Online courses are planned for the future to improve accessibility.
