Why this, why now
Nobody chooses GCSE music at options evening.
They choose because they had a great time in KS3 music and wanted more of it. By the time the options booklet goes out, most have already decided whether music is for them based on whether the lessons were worth turning up to.
The real challenge was never the pedagogy. It is building a two or three year sequence that holds up against mixed prior attainment, limited space or equipment and a small team in a busy music department, on top of a timetable that is already full.
An hour a fortnight on a carousel with art and drama needs a different curriculum to two hours a week with a specialist.
Nobody's three year plan survives your timetable. So we didn't write one.
What it looks like by key stage
Whole class practical music making at KS3, and enough depth at KS4 that the pupils who stay have something worth performing and something worth submitting.
Key Stage 3
Thirty pupils, playing, from week one
Everyone Can Play, Just Play and Playalongs put a whole class on guitar, bass, keys, ukulele and drums together, with each pupil playing at the level they are actually at.
Every lesson comes with a teacher guide and a teaching video, so a non specialist on cover can run it straight off the screen. Pupils can also take the lesson URL away and work in smaller groups on their own.
The Curriculum Mapping Tool sits over the top of it, which is what turns a library into a scheme of work.
Key Stage 4 and beyond
Something to rehearse, something to submit
Play Now gives pupils repertoire they will genuinely want to rehearse, which is half the battle with a GCSE performance.

Questions we get asked
We have almost no instruments. Is this any use?
Yes. Beats, chair drumming, body percussion and beatboxing need nothing but the room. Learn the DAW and Recreate run on school laptops or Chromebooks using free software. A small set of ukuleles or keyboards goes a very long way.
I'm covering music and I'm not a specialist. Can I run it?
Yes. Every lesson has a teaching video. Put it on the board and learn alongside the class. The sequencing, the backing tracks and the parts are already done. You bring the behaviour management.
Do pupils need logins?
No. You copy a share link and paste it wherever you already set work. No accounts, no passwords, no pupil data collected. The links stop resolving when the subscription ends.
How many teachers does one subscription cover?
Five, on one school licence. Each gets their own login and can use it at school and at home.
Does this map to the national curriculum?
Performing, listening and composing all sit across the library, so you can build a scheme of work straight from it, and the Curriculum Mapping Tool shows which lessons cover what.
The revised national curriculum is not published until spring 2027, for first teaching in 2028, so anyone claiming alignment to it today is guessing. We will map to it when it exists.
Is this the same as the UK Musical Futures organisation?
No, Musical Futures International and Musical Futures UK/Online are separate organisations with separate subscriptions.
Is there a free trial?

What happens when it ends?
Logins stop opening the courses and the share links stop resolving. Anything you downloaded and printed is yours to keep. Resubscribe any time and pick up where you left off.
Can we upgrade mid year?
Yes, and you only pay the difference, pro rata against what you have already paid.
Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland?
It works. The units are built around whole class practical music making rather than around one jurisdiction's assessment framework. The curriculum timeline above applies to England only.
